Perdido Key Beach Renourishment project
Dredging Today – USA: Perdido Key Renourishment About to Begin: Gulf Islands National Seashore and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are expected to begin a sand-renourishment project on the south shore of Perdido Key next week.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of December.
Seashore Superintendent Dan Brown said the purpose of the project is to:
- Restore beach that has been lost to erosion through storm action and active shoreline processes.
- Relocate sand deposited within the Pensacola Pass navigational channel.
- Restore the sand that erodes from the island, which is vital to barrier island function and longevity.

The superintendent of the Gulf Islands National Seashore expects to get the OK today from the National Park Service to build a ferry pier at Fort Pickens with $2.8 million secured last year.
A ferry system to shuttle passengers from Pensacola Beach across Pensacola Bay to downtown or Pensacola Naval Air Station has been studied for more than 30 years.......

The transformation has begun in the sleepy little beach town that is Gulf Shores. In just a matter of days the town will turn into a music festival Mecca that ranks right up there as one of the best in the nation. In only it’s second year the HangoutFest in Gulf Shores, AL has blossomed into one of the nations top music festivals.
The HangoutFest has engulfed the town’s public beach area with fencing, tents, portable generators, temporary trailers, stage setups the size of a small condo, bales of hay (for accoustic control) and wires, miles and miles of wires.
